In 1996 Travis(electric guitar) and Matt(singer and lead guitar) met. They were neighbors. They became friends and Matt invited travis to help with his band, FEEDBACK. This was Matt's second band and they were the hottest band in Winchester at the time. His first was Axe-a-dent and then FeedBack. In 1999 Matt got with Wild Oats. They opened 2 shows for Funny Money. Next, Matt put together another band called Reign. They tore up the scene for the next three years until inevitably drugs and alcohol tore them apart. Matt went on to try an orginial project and put out a cd called the Dead Neighbor Society. Then came Relapse. Travis meet Dave(bass guitar)back in 2003 while renting a place from him. Dave has played bass for 35 years and been in quite a few bands before joining Relapse. He's played for Blitz,Easystreet,Junkyard Dogs, and Thunderstruck. Dave and Matt met in 2004 when Matt's band (DNS) played at Dave's party.Dave has a party every year at his camp ground in Springfeild WV. In 2007 there were 12 different bands and hundreds of people. The big party, known as HITCHFEST, starts on Friday and ends on Sunday. Peoplecome from all over the area to camp for the weekend. Its always an unforgettable experience. There's no cover charge and everyone is invited. HITCHFEST 2008 will mark Relapse's one year anniversary and is sure to be one hell of a party. Matt and Ray(drummer)had crossed paths several times over the past ten years, icluding a collaboration in which they paired up with Reece Scruggs and Amanda Boggs. Reece was Matt's student and protige, and Amanda is a brilliant acoustic guitarist and vocalist. Travis and Ray met in 2005 and played together for a while, and Ray met Dave in 2007. That was how we met and this is how it all started. Back in June of '07 Travis called Matt to ask if he wanted to start a band and see if he was interested in playing at HITCHFEST. Matt told him to find a bass player and drummer and they would see how it worked out. So Travis called Ray, who was willing to give it a shot. A bass player was a little more tricky, but luckily Dave, who was playing for Thunderstruck, offered to fill in until they found another one. Travis called Matt with the good news and they all got together for 5 hours to came up with a set list. Everything went great and the boys had so much energy and connection that it wasn't long before Dave left Thunderstruck and the guys all agreed to a two year contract. Relapse emerged onto the scene. They started off by playing a few benefits such as Robs Run, which donates money to children for Christmas, as well as a few other shows to finish out the year. In 2008 Relapse is on fire and ready to rock, and had shows booked for the whole year by the end of February. Relapse plays kickass new and old rock tunes. They also have 4 of their own songs which the band will be recording soon. Relapse is a very high energy band and the crowd is sure to feel it. They're definitely the band you want to see. Relapse has special guests(clubs permitting) including dancers, a female singer, and much, much more. It's one helluva rockin show! Hope to see you at the next one. Don't forget to check our schedule at relapse304.com and DON'T STOP ROCKIN! Luv ya lots!!!!
